This site specializes in expedited freight which includes vans. Expeditorsonline.com.

As far as your question goes, there is very little cargo van freight on DAT or truck stop. There is some specialized loadboard for that freight but it was expensive as hell for the subscription something like $3,5k and you have to have at least 5 vans to join it. Meaning they don't want owner ops on it but rather actual carriers.

From what I saw it seems like the companies who are doing it already have the market pretty well locked up so you have to drive under their athourty.

I seen a Eastern European driving a Diesel powered Mercedes picking up at the DC. The guys who had loaded him said he had showed them his 1099. They said it said 293. They told me about him as I was behind him and waiting. I walked up to see his van which did not contain any identification DOT or MC numbers. When I ask him about it he said if he put everyone he worked with the van it would be completely covered. He had heated bunk and it appeared he lived there most of the time. I can not nor wish to be out on the road again however the numbers he showed the guys at the warehouse surprised me. I assume they got the load off of the brokers load board. I see there about once a week.
