I am a new carrier with a recently activated authority, have taken care of everything except plates and registering with IFTA.
I bought a truck a few weeks ago out of state, and am still waiting for the title. My state will not process an application for title until I have the title. And I cannot get plates and register with IRP and IFTA without a processed title application.
I have a 45 day temp registration that the out of state dealer gave me. Is it possible to run with this, not having IFTA stickers, until I can get everything set up? I've been stuck at home not being able to work waiting on bureaucrats to process the #### title.
(title is being processed out of state, the dealer sold it on consignment on behalf of someone that had not yet gotten the title in his own name, so he has to do that before the title can be sent to me)
IRP, IFTA problems

@Midwest Trucker may have some suggestions.

Last time I saw someone running on a temp tag was at a Florida scale. They wanted $4500 to let him go.
Dealer tags don’t have weight on them.ajamess91 Thanks this. -
Man, I’m not 100% sure. I’d probably haul freight if it was me. Maybe stay within a couple hundred miles of the house. I’ll ask my wife though, she sorts through all those issues for my company.

No you can’t haul freight with a dealer (paper temp )plate.......
Old Man Thanks this. -
The right state will shut you down until you produce a prorated tag. I don’t think your customer would be happy if you have a several week delay.

Sure, you might not have your apportioned plates and IFTA set up yet, but you can pay for trip and fuel permits for any other states you go to.joseph1853 and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
But I could be wrong......:-/ -
A rip temp is different than dealer tag
I see trucks everyday that have a temp irp taped in their windshieldjoseph1853 Thanks this. -
Alaska doesn't participate in IRP or IFTA, so for every trip to the lower 48 I have to buy trip passes and fuel permits from the states/provinces I travel through. There is no requirement to have IRP or IFTA on a truck if you pay for the passes in the states you run in. Sure, some states have limits on how many times you can can get passes, but it's doable in the short term.
