So I’m training intermodal with my current company I just transferred from another account. My question is how the hell do you see the trailer at night with no marker lights?? I’m slightly concerned with backing and right turns In pitch black areas I was even thinking about buying amber magnetic emergency lights to be on the safe side just in case. Im not trying to be dramatic but I also need to keep my job lol

Its a feel kinda thing... You either have it or you don't. But that's just my opinion.

11 years driving - last 4 at night.

You get used to seeing your trailer through reflected light. If there’s not enough ambient light to do that, hit the lights on the back of your cab that are pointed towards the trailer.

Also, Don’t Rush - if you have any doubt about your clearance, hit your hazards, pop your brakes and get out and look.

Work lights on your cab extenders pointing down the trailer for tight turns. Angle them out just a tad so you can see the landscape around you

Why are you pulling a trailer with no marker lights? 23 yrs of hauling cans, if it's not legal, don't haul it, if they company doesn't like it, TFB, let someone else haul it.

Well the amber lights on the side of the chassis is basically nonvisable. Also the marker lights on the chassis aren’t visible in the mirrors either. I didn’t mean they don’t have them at all. But when it’s pitch black and you are making a right hand turn it’s almost impossible to see

How is it in 23 yrs of hauling containers, I've not had these problems, what am I doing differently? Paying attention? Not rushing?

I was asking a simple question because the marker lights on an intermodal trailer are harder to see at night than your standard 53 foot trailer. It has to do with how to deal with the lack of visibility while making turns not the fact that I’m not paying attention or rushing
