Maybe Bill Clinton should have expanded the "Don't ask, Don"t tell" policy to all gu'ment institutions. What does a picture of "two women intertwined" have to do with the "making of a poltical statement". Sounds like advertising to me.

When i was in jr high and high school, it almost became a rule that you couldnt wear western boots or hat to school because it offended the mexican kids, there were a few fights between the mexican kids and the cowboys kids from the rodeo club in school. It only takes one, Where my cousin went to school it was a rule you couldnt wear either in school due to that,, kinda stupid i know.

LOL... Your not going to convince anyone around here (East Texas) to not wear boots and a cowboy hat...
You'd have a riot on your hands. ####### or not. -
####, this is an old thread.
I can understand the cowboy boots and hats since the attire lead to fighting. That is a huge distraction.
But the original matter of this thread was just silly. Only one teacher had an issue with the girl having pride in who she is as a person. No students expressed issues with it, so the teacher should be an adult and perform her job duties while that child was present for about an hour. I bet the teacher was 56 years old and just not accepting that today's kids just don't care that much.
PS I speak from experience. I taught 9th grade for in the '05-'06 school year, and I had a student who wore her rainbow accessories and shirts while a second student proclaimed she was bi-sexual. My 9th graders didn't show concern in class, and there wasn't any violence or taunting that disrupted the school day. Why? It wasn't that serious. *sigh*Hedon Thanks this. -
I think it's really hard for a lot of the old-timers to accept that most kids today just don't seem to care about sexual orientation anymore.
It's got to be really maddening for them to realize that when they all die off from old age there won't be many left that still believe a person's sexual orientation should be kept as a deep dark secret. I feel for them. -
I'm so with you. The kids will have enough #### to contend with when they're running the world. Worrying about sexual orientation will hopefully be one less concern for most people 30 years from now.
Hedon Thanks this. -
Unfortunately there will always be those who hate. I do believe they are not the majority, and most are secure in themselves to not be set off balance by another persons orientation, race, gender, religion, cat owner, dog owner, fish owner.
In high school it is all about expressing yourself, by wearing a gay symbol, a sport shirt or even cowboy boots.
I get the dress code thing, but, was that really the issue, look at some of the posts here, like the one that assumes the girl is 440 lbs, ugly with a boy hair cut. The assumption that a gay symbol is sexually explicit.
I agree school is about education, but, socializing, groups, defining ones self is part of the education. Even kids who are home schooled find activities that allow for social interaction.
Let me ask, if it had been a boy who wore a viking shirt because he is a football fan and likes the Vikings, and a teacher who was a Green Bay Packer fan made him cover it up, would we still feel e same way? that school is for education and not advertising your favorite sports team, that it is okay to be a Viking fan just don't flaunt it in my face, that he kid is probably obese, ugly and just lays on th couch watching football game and stuffing his face with chips, that the shirt is sexually expressive because it is about football a game where men tackle each other in tight pants. Do you think the kid should be suspended or expelled because of the dress code?Hedon Thanks this.
