    Looks ####ed.

Water pump doesn't touch oil at all since its belt driven. Chances are the oil in the coolant softened up the water pump seal and it started leaking.
You said the oil in the reservoir was brown not black? Brown is from a blown trans oil cooler, black is a bad engine oil cooler.

I’ve never had a trans cooler go bad. Can they put oil in the coolant and coolant in the trans at the same time?

Trans fluid is at super low pressures so I assume you would only put coolant into the trans. Happens allot on them truck though.

Well, crap. That's not good at all. We did just do an oil change, and the engine oil isn't black yet.

    Yes
With a pressure lube trans it is enough to push trans oil into the coolant system. Have seen it multiple times. Almost always there is also coolant in the trans as well.

Sure can. My antiquated experience was shocked to pull the plug on a trans during a service to drain 4 gallons coolant. The hopped up isx had been rebuild 3 times in this particular show truck for eating coolant. Didnt wanna be the guy to break the news. But I have zero experience with a mx13. Except embarrassing a few with a tiny 12.7l driptroit.
