Has any dry bulk cement hauler here on these boards ever gotten arsenic poisoning or any skin cancers (or any other cancer) from loading and unloading flyash year after year?

I've got a strange rash on my forearm that's been there for a month and was just wondering how worried I should be...

You could get it checked out to be sure, but flyash is a cementious material and the powder alone can burn you. That may be what you are experiencing.

Carry some vinegar with you....it'll neutralize the burn of cement or flyash.....which really isn't a burn, just a serious drying effect.

You'll smell like a bottle of italian dressing for a while, but..........

That ash is always fun to dump, just like lime, raise it up and wait for it to let loose and hope you don't fall over!:biggrin_2554:

As said, if you get a bunch on ya (or if you develop a rash) ... wash off with vinegar (dosent have to be full strength, you can do a 50/50 mix w/water in a spray bottle). Lotion also works well as a barrier ... and fixes the dry skin.

Fly ash is a by product of coal. Class F comes from Eastern coal, and Class C from Western. The difference is the carbon content.
Cement can burn you, eat through the threads in your shoes over time etc. Fly Ash I've not heard of anything like that happening.
Microsillica on the other hand is supposed to cause cancer. I've known of two people in the concrete business to die of cancer in the last year.... I've only been in the concrete business for a year and a half. I know another person that's been in the concrete business for years, that has cancer.

Back on the subject of fly ash.... fly ash as you know will go where water will not. It will pass through sieves that are to fine to allow water to trickle through.
When you get it on you it get's in your pours. I am going to venture a guess that maybe it is irrating your skins because it is clogging your pours? I don't know. I don't have a definite answer, but you should probably seek the advice of a medical professional.
Back to cement.... I've been covered in cement and fly ash both many many times. When I get covered in cement, i wake up in the middle of the night vomitting, and my throat is full of mucus.
I go through a pair of shoes about every 4-6 months, because the cement eats through the threads. I've been through quite a few shoe laces.

If weather permits, have you considered the use of gloves, and long sleave shirts?

Wish I could give you a better answer.
