I moved to the States in '99, after driving Europe for @6yrs. Things are a LOT easier here, and the pay is better too.
Do as already suggested, take a couple of weeks off, play tourist and then come home.

Situation is really bad here in europe,i think your chances of getting a job would be next to zero. I know many truckers here in Italy(but situation in europe is pretty much the same) with more than 20 years experience that are currently unemployed.
The only ones getting jobs in italy at the moment are drivers from the east, mostly from romania but also afica and india. Some of them are experienced but many drive with fake driving licences from their countryes. They get jobs because they drive illegaly and for even less than half of what a european drives gets. in some cases they drive 5 days and sleep in the truck parked in the warehouse on the weekends and the company takes money from their wages because they use the truck as if it was an hotel.

Not sure about Canada, but the UK LGV licence does not qualify you as CDL in the US.

UK LGV licence does not qualify you as CDL in the US and Canada. You will have to re-do all testing (written and driving).

Its tough in the UK too, lots of Polish & Lithuanian drivers working for less money and working illegal hours in the firms I go to.
