What's under the hood determines the speed you pull the hill. Taller rears just means you gotta drop more gears in the transmission to compensate.

455 egr 12.7 was a dud the pre egr 12.7versions were ok but weak from the lower torque . Driven correctly a 500 hp pre egr is hard to beat
Brettj3876 and TripleSix Thank this. -
Maybe not.Hammer166 and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
I had 2.93's with a 12.7 470 detroit and a 13spd.
Never had any issues pulling hills or on take off, never had to drop to many gears to pull a hill either. Ran 48 and Canada with it pulling refers, tanks, roll offs and step deck.magoo68, Tug Toy and Truckie6674 Thank this. -
The number of gears changed depends on where you started from.
a double overdrive will change 2 more gears than a direct for example.
That's not exact science but------- -
What speed did you usually cruise at?

I used to run a 12.7/13spd/2.73/lo pro combo that was great. The engine put 550ish to the tires on a dyno at the time it was rebuilt so it was very healthy. Would have been an 8mpg truck if Id have ran 65 and not 70-72.
