Been driving with Magnum since the 31st of Dec as of today I have ran over 3500 miles.

I have a 2019 Pete that had 215,xxx when I got it, fridge and APU’S, also 1800 watt inverters, bunk has tv mount not sure what size tv will fit probably a 32’ inch.

Fuel is at Pilot on Flying J only, but you can fuel when are wherever. Driver managers don’t hound you, get you load and deliver it safe, if you want to run they will run you, I been getting my next load the day I’m dropping my current one.

Someone on here said they estimated that 80% of Mangum's stops are live loads/live unloads. I know things change by the month with COVID and all that, but what would you guys estimate the percentage of warehouses that let you use their bathroom while you're getting loaded/unloaded? And that's a real bathroom with soap and water, not just a Porta John (although Porta John's are better than nothing).

Also, with the new HOS, do any of you guys HAVE to use the 8-2 or 7-3 split to get the load in on time?

For example, a couple of days ago I had a terrible day. They took 8 hours and 15 minutes to live load me. Afterwards I had to get my APU fixed (alternator issues) which took about 3 hours as well. So from about 10:00am - 10:00pm I had driven a total of something like 15 miles for the day. I chose to drive 4 hours after that, but only because I WANTED to (they moved the receiver appointment time back for me already).

In situations like mine, or even in less extreme situations where maybe a warehouse takes 3 hours to live load/unload you, are you having to pull 16 - 17 hour days a lot at Magnum? How many days a week would you say you're having to pull 16 - 17 hour days out of NECESSITY to make the loads on time?

Company I'm with now is more like 50/50 between drop and hook and live loads/unloads and a lot of times the lives aren't too long, so I don't have to put in those long days too often and when I do it's usually by choice and not necessity.

All my loads so far have been live loads, the longest load was today as the weather was crap here in Minnesota don’t ya Knoo, and that was 2.5 hours, but trucks were back up since last night, I was picking up a Gov’t load of school lunch stuff for the Alabama Dept. of Education, so they got me in and loaded as quick as they could.

I just drive my 10 or 11 hours a day, as I always have plenty of time to make my loads. I haven’t used the 8-2 or 7-3, or know much about how that works, so I will have to read up in that. I don’t ever feel rushed here.

Every receiver and shipper I have been at has had a rest room accessible to drivers.

This load I’m on now is from Lakeville MN to Birmingham, Alabama about 1060 miles and then have my appointment time of 1500 on Monday, and sometime Monday Dispatch will call with a few loads going out of that area, I ask where they are going, they tell me and I pick the one I like.

What company are you working for now?

Zangief, JForce28, Goldenfan and 2 others Thank this.

Don't want to say the name of the company as I'm still employed with them (and they are a good company actually). But it's a starter mid sized company that does dry van and reefer. I'de probably stay here with them but I grossed $53k in 2020 and that was my 2nd year of trucking. I think about 55k gross will always be about the max I could make here unless I trained (which I don't want to train). I think I can do better than grossing $53k with 2 years of experience and $0.45 CPM going into my 3rd year.

I read on here that loads out of the Fargo Terminal (I think it was the Fargo Terminal) were not forced dispatch and you could choose the load you wanted. But your dispatchers sometimes call you when you're far away from Fargo (like right now you said you're delivering to Birmingham) and they let you pick a load that you want? So they let you pick your loads even when you are away from the Fargo Terminal?

Is that because your a senior driver or is that the norm there? That's actually really great to have a choice sometimes of what load to pick.

The loads get you around and then back to MN or Fargo. Unless you need training you start at .49 cents plus if you have hazmat it an extra cent a mile when you run. Plus some monthly bonus cents. It’s a cool place. I have drove for Melton, Stevens Transport, Werner, Swift and Cr. England, those were a from 2004-2010, I would deploy to Afghanistan or Iraq and come back and drive till I found another deployment to jump in, those companies are night and day to here.

    BeHereNow97, JForce28 and Winnyf1 Thank this.
