I was driving for a company and I was going to take Home time so I parked my tractor in a shopping center parking lot along with some other trucks. There isn't any major truck stops around the area so my wife called the local police department and ask if I could park in this parking lot and they said sure trucks do all the time so that's what I did. I ended up being on home time for 4 day's,On the 3rd day we went out and coming back though I saw a local officer sitting in the parking lot and we stopped by and I told him who I was and ask if it was ok for me too park there and he said yes by all means. Again there was a couple other trucks there so again I figured it would be ok. On the day I was supposed to go back on the road I called the Manager/ Dm of the company I worked for and he said where is the truck and I told him,He said no it's not it's being towed. I don't know who called to have it towed and the Tow bill was $950.00,I never signed any paperwork stating that the company could deduct anything besides taxes and insurance. The company started taking out $100.00 a week out of my check. My question is can they do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So you just want the company to eat your mistake? It does not matter what the cops told you, truck getting towed was the result of your actions and you are at fault. Call your company and say sorry for being a dumb ###

Did you visit the police department and ask why the truck was towed after the police said it's ok to park there.
Maybe someone on the police dept. is getting kickbacks from the tow company.

The right call would have been to the property management company of the shopping center.

If you want to know where a Dunkin Donuts is ask a cop.

I don't think the company can take the money from you. Best to ask the labor board if you're a W-2.

Legally they cannot. That said, why were you trespassing? Just because a truck fits doesn't mean you are allowed to park there.

    You have a couple options.
    1. Quit and file for unpaid wages with the labor board.
    2. Keep working for a company that doesn't care about the law.

Oh, if if the company didn't illegally garnish your wages, then they likely would have fired you anyway.....

i don't believe you can call it wage garnishment.

What does garnishment mean on a paycheck?
A payroll garnishment occurs when a court issues an order requiring an employer to withhold a certain amount from an employee's paycheck and send it directly to the organization or person owed money, until the debt is fully paid.

maybe the tow company has a hold on the truck, until the tow bill was paid, which then, they would have had to get a court order. and if you're in "Hickstown, USA", good luck

Most likely the officers didn't tow it. It was towed by the people who owns the land the truck was trespassing on.

No I didn't go too the police department I don't think the police department had it towed since there are other trucks that park there and there was 2 other trucks parked there the day I talked to the officer
