I've been driving a little over 6 months & have silly question.

I haul potatoes with 7 other trucks. In the morning when we load each driver climbs into in his trailer & directs the potato pile operator where to pile the potatoes. Since we have 53' trailers we usually have to move the truck ahead since we load from the rear. So we move each others truck forward to eliminating having to climb in/out of our trailers.

I'm the newest driver & everyone else had been with this company 6+ years. Almost every truck I've jumped into & moved the driver has their drivers seat set real low. I'm 5'11" & not taller than most of the other drivers. I seem to prefer to drive with my seat fairly high, if not all the way up. I tried lower positions & feel I don't see out as well.

    Advantages to low rider seats?

for me it depends on the truck. some I sit on the floor, others I need a little air in the seat.

When I first started, I always had the seat high. But, as time went on I found I like it better now at about a medium or so height. Unsure if, as I drive longer, it will progressively go lower. IDK if that has anything to do with it. But, now it feels weird with the seat all the way. Which, I occasionally still do to avoid the sun at certain times of the day.

Most drivers will let the air out of drivers seat before they get out to keep from wearing the outside part of seat off and to make it easier to climb back in when having to move truck up?

FerrissWheel, tscottme and wis bang Thank this.

I always thought that was pure foolishness. What's the point of an "air chair" if it rests on the floor. IDK, I want to be up high to see all around me, not barely able to see over the dash.

I always set my seat so that my view outside was maximized. I am a large man and most of the time this means my seat was rather low. The only exception was running through places where the roads ran through yazoo clay, or otherwise, the roads were allowed to get worse. Not meaning to hijack the thread or change the subject, but if that seat is so low you keep hitting bottom it is your spine all the way to the base of your neck that is taking the hit. Over time this can cause all sorts of issues with pain. Oh, @Flyingdriver this is far from a silly question. Over the last year, there are many threads in these forums about how to handle and/or prevent back pain on this job. A properly adjusted air-ride seat is one way!

I just replaced my lo rider for a real seat. I want maximum adjustment for whatever conditions the world throws at me.

If vou drive with the seat so low that it bottoms out and hits the floor at every bump, later in life when you have bad back you will wish you never let the seat hit the floor so many times?

Put it on the floor and leave it there. I hate bouncing constantly with air in the seat, gives me a headache and just all around pisses me off.
