Now that I've made a decision to get into the trucking industry as a OTR driver I find myself looking more closely at the tractor/trailers out there on the highway. My question is this: Which of the bigger companies require their equipment to look clean consistently?
I realize that just because a company's equipment is clean doesn't necessarily mean that the company is also safety conscious but to me it's a good indicator.

Well it isn't MY tractor because the woman driving it never remembers to wash the blasted nasty dirty thing.

Okay, so your tractor is not the cleanest! I did notice in your profile that you have 0-12 months experience. What can you tell me about your first year? How about some do's and don'ts? How's your miles?
    Thanks,

I love the job. I like my company. I run team with my husband he's a newbie too. We run around 5 to 6 k a week. We're on a dedicated fleet. Love our fleet/terminal manager and the staff. I got out of the academy april 9. Been on the road ever since. Forget about hometime if you're OTR lol.

Stop trying to find the perfect company and find the one that has what you need.

ummm what else to tell you.......well someone will now come along behind you and tell you how much they hate Swift. ROFL That's who I work for.

Can't pass this one up and I tried, really I did. :yes2557:

It's not so much she drives for Swift, it's the fact we have a menopausal manic, that is a red head behind the wheel that scares most of us. :biggrin_25521:

As far as clean trucks, wrong time of year to be asking about that. We are in winter, some of us are sloshing around in snow and the last we are doing is spending money on truck wash that will last about 1/2 day. I don't count, O/O and I don't want to spend the money right now.

As far as cleaniness of the truck more depends on the driver than the company. Can be clean on the outside and a pig sty on the inside. :biggrin_25510:

I like clean equipment. I think it projects a good image to the public. However, it is costly to wash a fleet of 1000 trucks/trailers. But, it's a write off (tax) for the company. Most companies have a twice a month wash policy, but, the driver has to do this on his time and find a truck wash and get a PO etc. Some drivers could care less about having a reasonably clean truck. These are drivers with a filthy interior and enough junk on their dashboard to choke a horse.

Prime inc has a trailer wash program. Marten does not. Compare these two companies. You rarely see a clean Marten truck, but see a lot of shiney Prime trailers. I always hand washed my truck in my driveway most every weekend and the trailer as well when I lived where I could park it next to my house. But, that's just me, kind of a clean freak. If I owned a trucking company and I saw one of my trucks in the yard/on the highway filthy, the driver would be gone in a New York minute. I live on I-40 in Az. and see trucks daily going by as well as coming in/out of the 5 local truckstops. To see a filthy/never washed 2 year old KW shows me that driver has no pride whatsoever in his job. But, hey, to each his own, right? :Trailer:

Ummmmm the inside is clean.....the dash is a bit crowded but it's a small dash and I have a big pig to put on it. Not to mention my log.

As for washing.....okay......bottom line is this: To do it myself will mess up my hair. To take it to the truck wash will use time I can spend with my grandbabies.

I guess I have no pride in my job. :biggrin_25512:
