Not nonsense. The cruise set moderates the engine break very well. At first I was suspicious of how it would handle the high rpm but it does well. Only had it get away from me 1 time at around 22 on I82 in Oregon? I think.... but using a judicious amount of snub breaking to let's say 45 or 50mph, reset the cruise already at 55 and let it hold me until I see the rpms creep past maybe 19 and snub it again. It works well for me on Eastern slopes. Seems to bump the engine break to the optimal level as needed. Still in process of learning the western slopes better.

Ya know I think they and other fleets cause their own problem.

They get a few DA’s that cause problems so they add more micromanaging and cattle prods then they complain they can’t get any good drivers, and fail to realize that the good drivers don’t need or want any cattle prods or micromanaging nor do they have any desire to work with a bunch of DA’s.
