What's the availability of wi fi hot spots in the truck stops, or any where, for that matter?? Do most hook up with air cards?
Thanks

97.9% of the trucks stops have wi-fi. 98% of those truck stops charge you for that service.
Go get yourself an air card from your cellular provider & save yourself a lot of time & headaches.... It will be cheaper in the long run. Plus 95% of truckstop wi-fi connections are slower then dial up. -
Almost all major truckstops will provide wifi, and I think that they are probably a little under rated. When I started driving OTR in 2006, they were AWFUL. Expensive and slow, so I got a cellular company air card and it was much better. Then I took a little driving hiatus and went wrenching. This winter, I went back to driving for a bit, and used truck stop wifi again. Now that every truck stop has their own wifi, it seems more competitively priced and connectivity is way better. Still, if it is a large lot and you are in the back, expect problems. Yes, it is still hit and miss, but as a whole it is WAY better than it was 3 or so years ago IMO.

Yeah they are real under rated... I use the wi-fi at truckstops... Most of the connections are so ssssslllllloooooowwwww that every time I go to send a email the United States Postal Service calls me up & says that they can get it there faster.fargonaz Thanks this.

Yeah when redd and I was at the last truck stop I would post using my air card. It was quicker to walk over to his truck to hear what his reply was...

the majority of the time I used it I could stream video from it. That is good enough for me!
5.00 a day is the high limit too. Flying J is the most expensive at 5 a day, and pilot seems like they were a buck cheaper. Also for 2 or 3 bucks you can get it for an hour instead of 24 hours. Works good if you only want to check email and what not before bed or something. I figured that as hard as I was running and the amount I used it, I would be far better off paying as I went and using it where I could. Now when I drove for Schneider, I used the internet for many many hours every day, cause I did not get very many miles. The last company I drove for, I was kinda just filling in on a dedicated run that was a foundry getting ready to shut down. I got 3500-4000 miles a week on that run, no joke. An hour of internet ever other day was fine in that situation.
ALSO worth mentioning.... most major chains offer monthly subscriptions for 20 bucks or so a month. If you get a subscription at the three major chain stops, you are still slightly cheaper then any aircard worth having. -
You just wanted to hear the soothing sounds of my voice!
