I dont know if I spelled that right but you get it.
Starting school on Jan.2. Got the state to pay! Yea! $5440!
So I go to the school to drop off the voucher and I start to talk about this and that and how I wanna go to CFI to work. I have heard a lotta good things about CFI such as it's against company policy for thier recruiters to lie which is a breath of fresh air in this industry as far as I can tell. And I talked to one of thier drivers who worked for Swift and then just went over a year for CFI. Bottom line, she loves it there.
So when I talked to the school people they said "AH, CFI isnt the greatest company out there." Now I have no doubt they are right but they have been pushing CRST on me every time I've been in to see them which has been 3 times. I compared the two. Not really scrutinized but a quick glance. CFI starts teams at .43cnts plus .03cnts hazmat plus .05cnts any load above Virginia. CRST starts at .33cnts and as far as I see thats it.
Home time CFI= 7on 1 off CRST= 7on 1 1/2 off
My question is, Do some schools get kick backs from trucking co.'s for sending them students? They did say that if I was to sighn a contract (8 months) that they were the company school. I would train there. But even knowing that I have my training paid they are still pushing this company which I dont raelly feel good about going to. Any insight as to why they would do this or do you all think they actually believe this is the best place for us?
He also said the reason he didnt like CFI was that I wouldnt get hours. No hours he said. Especially after christmas. I will just sit somewhere. CRST on the other hand, according to him, has more frieght than they have trailers for. Anyone able to comment on this statement?
Also CRST uses Freightliners and CFI uses Kenworth T2000 for teams. Kenworth is a better truck, no?
Schools, ulterior motives?

The school I went to said that many companies would hire their students. The walls were plastered with Werner posters. The office desks were covered with Werner calenders and cups. The majority of graduates went to Werner. Funny thing a Werner recruiter never came to speak to the classes. Swift and TMC came and gave pretty good presentations, but Werner never sent anyone.

School in Tampa FL was pushing Werner. Gee the recruiter for the school was also a recruiter for Werner. Big surprise. Another school in Riviera Beach FL was pushing Covenant. I believe they just push the companies that they know will hire you just to say they have "excellent job placement assistance" and "100% of our graduates get a job.". All marketing and PR.

Thanks for the insight. This school is also in florida. Melbourne.
To answer dstockwell, yes it is my wife. I probably wouldnt want to team if it wasnt for the fact that Florida has beautiful weather but lousy wages. My wife doesnt make 20K a year and she works full time in a windowless print shop filled with microscopic paper dust which she had to have sinus surgery to remove an 80% blockage that was causing infections 1 after the other. (bit more than you care to know! lol)
This is the woman I love and and it kills me to see her being taken advantage of.
I think this would make a good arguement for teaming.
Also, I forgot in the original post, He said they hire to all the companies that take students. I beleive around 53 or 54 is what he said. When I asked him for a list so I could do research he told me" I dont have a list handy. What do you want to do? We fit you with a company that is right for what you want to do specifically." And then pushed CRST! LOL! So to date I havent seen a list or heard about any other companies except the ones that I have talked about.
Another question. When I come out of the school do I have to have a company picked and ready to go to? TDI said we had to be hired BEFORE we graduated. -

Be very careful what you sign at orientation. I have heard of new drivers signing and agreeing without realizing it, that they will re-pay the trucking company for their travel, lodging, meals, and other orientation costs if they do not stay with the company for a certain amount of time.
But, that's not the worst part, sometimes these companies are legally able to charge you extremely high interest rates on the amount you owe them. It can turn into a very huge amount if you don't pay it for several years. Also, it will be a debt on your credit report.....forever, making if difficult if you want to buy a home, car, etc in the future. -
Freightliner (Freightshaker) Century Class is to me a preferred truck, not the Columbia though as like the T-2000, a BAD design.
Many of the features apparent on the Century Class are omitted on the Columbia including engine power.
Were I to team drive, I would only climb into a Freightshaker Century Class with a manual trans.
"Auto"shift is okay to some yet no good (to me) in icey conditions or really any other conditions as well.
I Hope the BEst of WELLness 2-u-n-urs-n ALL (ad)ventures!! -
saw a school here in Hotlanta that was $4800 if you financed it or it was $2400 if you paid up front before the classes even started. i went by there to get a answer booklet for the hazmat test since i need to change my cdl to ga. didn't get it this time but i will and you all will be notified of my conquering the system once again. *evil laugh inserted here*
