It said in the story I read that they barely broke even in a year that saw all time highs on package deliveries. Another company the greedy union ruined and made unprofitable.
I was wondering in the last few weeks around my house why two different UPS terminals were advertising for drivers, which is usually unheard of.GoneButNotForgotten and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this. -
UPS is a billion dollar company I believe they made 2 billion last quarter. I don't think the union is the greedy one here. Starting wages at UPS is 21 dollars an hour. If the union was greedy or at least had a spine they would of had everyone being paid the same rate as the highest paying driver. If you look at some of their other contracts with other carriers the members are making less or equal pay as the non unions.skinnytrucker, LtlAnonymous, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this.

Agree.
UPS has a very weak driver's union and it amazes me at what little they settle for each time their contract comes up.bzinger Thanks this. -
It’s not hard to see how it happens. Ups drivers making stupid high levels of money and budgeting on lots of O/T. Not hard to get them to rethink a “no” vote when the company says it’s their last, best and final offer and they are faced with having to cover off the expensive lifestyle many buy into that they couldn’t afford on just 40hrs of straight time.
I’m not ragging on them, just going off what a few close family friends who are Ups drivers have told me about contract negotiations and how they get the membership to vote yes.jtaran06, Dave_in_AZ, Northeast Hillbilly and 3 others Thank this. -
It's that and it is also the senior drivers that say "well I only need 3 years till I can retire so I don't care what happens as long as it doesn't effect my pension" or it's the company man type that goes out of their way and think the company has their best interest, or the "I cant lost this job because where else am I going to go and I don't want to start at the bottom" type but what it really comes down to is lazy union leaders who try to encourage members to vote yes on crappy contracts to begin with. Every BA is overweight at my local and their is a reason for that.Dave_in_AZ, Northeast Hillbilly, LtlAnonymous and 2 others Thank this.

If many locals had BAs like Sean O’Brien out of Local 25, contracts would look completely different. That guy is a pit bull, or at least that’s my impression of him.skinnytrucker, LtlAnonymous and bzinger Thank this.

As TFI has no other LTL carrier in US I think rationalisation move will be limited but the TST Overland/SAIA partnership has no futureLtlAnonymous and uncleal13 Thank this.

I think you are confusing freight and small package.
UPS small package makes a killing along with the highest wages and best benefits in the industry.snowlauncher, LtlAnonymous and bzinger Thank this.
