Unfortunately that is only PART of the answer, medications of this nature can still potentially disqualify you. For some reason it's OK to let an unstable person behind the wheel, but we can't let a responsible adult who has gotten help operate a CMV.

The correct answer is in post #8. That is what I would have LINKED TO!

I have no experience with this medication. My suspicion is that IF taken as prescribed it will NOT cause a positive because there won't be enough analytes to go past the cutoffs.

I agree! However, in almost every case these determinations are made by the carrier.

You mean drug tests are to filter out drug abusers, not those who take them in little quantity and legally for genuine medical needs. Right???

Unfortunately it can also come to the physician doing your DOT physical.

    Swift007 Thanks this.

Not trying to be argumentative. Just pointing out that a driver can seek a 2nd opinion as long as they are truthful about the first physical. Disqualification means by rule a driver can't drive. The text of post 8 makes it clear there can be exceptions made and it's left up to the ME to decide. I remember a driver that could not get a local (Hampton Roads Virginia) ME to sign off on his use of Hydrocodone and traveled to see another ME in Richmond who did. This is why I try to stay out of arguments about drugs and driving. The only drugs that are prohibited BY RULE are Schedule I drugs and Cocaine, along with any medication used to control seizures. Everything else is up to the ME and the carrier.

Drug testing is left up to the company or group that requires it. The US DOT set up what is tested for. They also set up the amount where they cutoff what constitutes a positive. For example, it is NOT a myth that poppy seeds can cause someone to have opiate analytes in their body. Again this is NOT a myth. Because the DOT has established these cutoffs eating poppy seeds while they will do this, will not cause you to go past these cutoffs. This subject can be rather complex and I would recommend asking someone that does testing as a profession to explain further!

I understand and wasn't being intentionally argumentative.

You're gonna have to disclose that when you get your DOT medical card. They will find it in your medical records.
With that said you're probably fine. You would just have to do DOT exams every year.

I know people on xanax that are still given the ok to drive. And that stuff is a tranquilizer. That is one of the last things I would've thought you can drive on. But apparently not!
