I'm a 30 year vet of the road.... Getting ready to buy my 1st truck... Maximum fuel mileage is what I look to achieve.... I have heard different options as to whether to use the cruise control. I'd like some options from experienced O/O's not 1 year 1st truck operators..
Also any other advise given would be appreciated...

Screw the fuel mileage either way, I’m going for comfort.

How can you go into the sleeper and whip up some microwave KD if you don't have cruise control?

Fuel is the biggest expense, makes sense to try for the best mileage you can get.

Spec the truck for the work it will be doing.

    Use your foot.

Foot can always beat the cruise. It can be done just using the cruise also. Leaving it set, and getting a run on a hill ,then bumping it down a bit while topping a hill for instance, instead of letting it pour on the fuel. Cruise can’t see the top of a hill. I went a couple years without cruise. My hamstring still gets cramps from it. Comfort rules.

Not all feet are created equal, but I agree. The OP should try it for himself and then he'll know.

The one thing that constitutes the truck actually being broke, unable to be driven, is if the cruise breaks.

I can beat the cruise every time. But, it's all mountains and rolling hills around here. And, there's only a few places that I go where I can actually get any real use of cruise control.

I'd guess if you're on flat ground the cruise would be the way to go.
