Let's see you in the SW so you'd see them shiny trucks in winter, come on up here to the NW and we're just proud we are still rolling. I'm an O/O and during the slimy months (they started early this year) Oct thru May the truck get a hot spray to knock the gunk off just for the hell of it.
Now if I was running my route in the SW it would be a different story.
Just cause you see a fifthy truck doesn't mean a driver doesn't have pride in their job or their home. Ever think maybe he/she is a bit busy, got laid up somewhere due to weather and is running behind? You can have a very shiny truck outside and have a pig sty on the inside. Shiny trucks do not mean some one has more pride than one that hasn't been washed (in what might look like forever) in awhile.doubledragon5 and JustSonny Thank this. -
I own my truck. I was washing it every other weekend. But the weather is now crappy. It rains every day down south and is snowing in the north. The only trucks that will be able to stay clean for longer than 2 days are the ones that stay in the southwest. Everywhere else is a wasted effort until late spring.

I've never liked to drive a dirty truck, or personal vehicle for that matter. But for heaven sakes, ya gotta use some common sense about it.
I do always try to keep the inside clean and tidy, (which for a cigar smoker is in itself an uphill battle!) But to wash a truck in Utah's Dixie when you know you are headed over I70 in the winter, just doesn't make any sense to me.JustSonny Thanks this. -
When at Werner they had a once a month wash for the truck and you could get one a month for the trailer (so two a month since they dont wash the trailer without the truck) and trailer washouts whenever you needed one for a consignee. Like the beer nuts.
I am not sure what the policy is here, but since we are fairly happy here, even if they don't pay for it we will probably wash the truck once a month or so. Get the wheels done every once in a while, we did get the wheels and tanks done on the werner truck too. I like the truck to look nice, and its only 50.00 once in a while to keep it that way so it doesnt bother me when we are making 5+ k a month.
That said the inside of the truck could probably use work, I am just not sure how it get so dirty in a matter of a few days... but it does. I am going to be buying 2 seat back holders so maybe that will help. We plan to sit down this weekend and vaccumn/wash/armor all the interior, and try to organize things a bit more. It might be easier for a solo person to keep the truck clean as they have a 10 hour break where they are stopped and can spend a few hours putting things away and wiping any spills that may have happened off. For a team, its nearly 24/7 rolling, on loads with tight schedules where stopping to run in to take a bathroom break and grab a sandwhich is about all you have time for... MAYBE.
Drive to tight pickup, hook, roll your 10, stop at truck stop, wake co driver, run in go potty, get food, run back to truck, co driver rolls 10 you try to sleep as much as possible, sometimes this can take an ENTIRE 10 hour break on rough roads, rinse repeat... try organizing while the truck is rolling even if you aren't driving, its nearly impossible, and highly unsafe lol.JustSonny Thanks this. -
I don't want to beat this subject to death, and I say to each his own, but I like a clean truck. Thats just me. I will go out of my way and make time to keep it clean. Makes no diff if its winter, summer, back east, snowing, raining, muddy drop lots or whatever. I've done 48 states in company equipment and local dirt/construction with bottom dumps. I'm the guy you see using the hose on the fuel island to spray off any dust/bugs while the tanks are filling up. You may see me at a dollar coin wash nosed in to the car bay getting the front end somewhat clean. (my time, my coin). If there's a water hose nearby, I'll find it and use it. I might add I don't hold up any body from fueling. I hosed my bottom dumps every day (almost) when I got back to the yard to get the mud/dirt off. I once worked at a bottom dump outfit that parked their trucks at a quarry and I carried a garden hose in the front seat and used a water spiget to wash that rascal almost daily. I polished the tanks/wheels on my own time by hand so many times over the years, I've worn off a layer of skin, I'm sure. I agree about NOT washing your truck if headed out through a snowstorm etc, but everyone here knows that there will always be some kind of inclement weather going on somewhere no matter the time of year, or the area of the country. And lastly people, you can tell the difference between a never washed truck and a washed last week truck. I can, at least.

I could care less what the outside looks like- I live in the inside. And I find myself agreeing with Nana, I have other things I'd rather do with my time than wait in line for someone to wash this truck.

i do admire a man who keeps his equipment clean

May I bring up something that is totally irrelevant to this conversation? (I guess I just did).
AND THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK on ALLOWME...BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE SAY THIS...
When someone says that they COULD CARE LESS that says that there is room left to care.
What most people mean is that they COULD NOT or COULDN'T CARE LESS meaning that they have room for any more care on this issue or that they have no interest whatsoever in the matter...in this case, a clean truck.
Just a stickler about what we say...words really do mean things. Don't be misunderstood by others, mean what you say, and make sure you say what you mean.JustSonny Thanks this. -
"COULDN'T care less"...You COULDN'T care less...sorry, i had to say that after my earlier rant.
