I decided to do some trip planning to see if I had the hours to actually deliver to Newark on time. Unfortunatly, I do! And here's the best part, once I get there I will have 3 hrs left on my 70 and I only p/u 5.75 at midnite, so EVEN IF THEY COMPANY GETS ME A LOAD GOING HOME, I wont have enough hours to get there till Wed. sometime!
Oh yeah, if I refuse any load going in the wrong drct, they will just let me sit where I'm at!
Jim, I bet both Wal-mart and McDonald's will let you keep more of your money too! If I didnt need to provide for my family...maybe I can convince them to move into a cardboard box under a bridge!
The way things are going we might wind up there no matter what I do!

I'm way to old for that, maybe Dave. Besides, they wouldn't dare trust me with a full load of beer !!!

    Hey Dave,

If you get a load from Jersey to somewhere near home and don't need to run a toll road, time to be 0% legal and just run it and fix it later.

Sometimes you do what you have to do.

When I was on the road the first time in 1991, dispatch said you have a load in Ohio, they close in 2.5 hours, if you miss it, they won't reopen till Monday. I said if I miss it call me Sunday at home and let me know what time my pick up is. He said huh??? I said I am less then 8 hours from home, do you think I am going to sit in a truck for the weekend? I did make the pick up in time though...

My point is priorities. When we had our first grandchild, I flew to NY to see him, went for a short 3 day trip. Was worth every penny of that last minute expensive flight.

I am not sure about that company but if I was that close to home and they had no load, I would tell them to get one from Ohio cause that is where I will be.

    Good luck to you!

You guys want to see something that will explain in detail why things are the way they are on the road now days? Go to that "tube" place and search for "trucking isnt what it used to be" by truckersteve or whiteline films. That will explain everything.

It is realistic, true, and most importantly it probably won't be changing for a while. I spent most of my life either in my grandfathers Ford 9000, or my uncles Pete. When I wasn't riding with them I was working in my dads diesel repair shop or with him out on the side of the interstate towing broke down rigs to the nearest shops or back to our shop.

The only way things will change is for people to realize that their families life and our life is up to us.

I am in the process of getting back on the road, granted I am a newbie (only 90 days and 21k and change in driven solo miles) but you either love trucking or you don't. Any job you take will have someone breathing down you neck unless you are the top dog in the company. That will never change.

Ya know, I talked to this famous movie star, about representing the truckers. Kinda like what Charleton Heston did for the NRA. If the truckers just made the slightest effort, we could most likely get some famous faces in our corner. It all helps, because sitting and bit##ing isn't doing much good.
    Yeah thats a cool site.......

They have to care about something other than themselves first. I know there are alot of great people out there that will bend over backwards to share knowledge and help any way they can, but there are also alot of drivers on the roads that care about themselves and only themselves.

It seems every time you turn the CB on you here some old crusty old timer jacking his jaw about how all the rookies need to go back home to mama and leave trucking to the real truckers. While I agree that there are alot of whiners out there that hate everything about trucking and like nothing more than to let everyone else on the road know how miserable they are, if that is how you feel, clean out your truck, park the s.o.b. and quit running your mouth about how terrible life is. If you hate what you are doing that much, change your situation or live with you choice.

If you are implying that I dont have a legitimete reason to be upset, come talk to me when you have 15 yrs of this #### behind you! Trucking was a great for the 1st 3-4 years and I felt the same way you do, how could anyone complain about this job? But then I matured and realized there was more to life than fast trucks, big CB radios and loose women. I had a family that didnt know who I was, friends that thought I had died. I wole up one day and realized I lost connections with everyone that was important to me, watched my health go down the toilet, compromised my values, in short , I became a person that I hated!
So before you judge me or write me off as being bitter, take a long, hard look at me, you could become just like me in 10-15 yeard, rookie!
