Qcomm... there aren't going to be "smoke police". This is the way it is going to work... The complaint is to be lodged with the place of business. If the problem is allowed to continue, there is a phone number to call to make a complaint. Then the business, not the individual who is smoking, is issued a citation. If you are the only one in your truck, then there will never be anyone to complain, thereby no problem. Still against the rules, but no way to ever get caught. That's why I don't see someone who is assigned a tractor that they don't share having a problem. Same thing goes for owner operators.

Kelpie, your response is exactly the reason that this is a problem. It isn't "your responsibility where the wind takes your smoke"? Nice. "If someone is offended by it, TOO BAD"? Right on. "They will just have to move and quit whining"? Not anymore.

It is people like you that caused non-smokers to react. We just got tired of arrogant, holier than thou folks who thought their rights supercede ours, so we took a vote on it. Obviously you are in the minority. Your rights are now the ones that need to stop whining and move. And trust me, I have never harrassed a smoker. I have asked them to put their smokes out, and I have about a 25% success rate. Most just roll their eyes and continue killing themselves. A few though are actual human beings who realize they are offending someone. I am pretty sure you would be an eye roller.

Go ahead and try the smoking outside a building bit. You aren't grasping that the police aren't coming after you. They will fine the owner of the building. I can assure you, owners aren't going to take too many $2500 fines before they run you off. Same goes for trucks. A trooper isn't going to give you a citation, they are going to cite the company. ABC Trucking will be paying the fine, not Mr. Kelpie. How long do you think you will be working for ABC if they are handing out money to support their driver's smoking habits?

Soju, if all smokers would have had that motto, this would never have been an issue. For whatever reason though, most smokers are just so sure of their god given right to light up when and where they want that somewhere along the line it became ok to be completly inconsiderate of other people.

As far as being communist, I think some people need to take a few political science classes. This is democracy at its finest. The people went to the polls and voted. If the smokers would have won, they would all be shouting from the rooftops about how great democracy is. Plain and simple, smokers are upset with the results. Understandable, but here in this democracy, MAJORITY rules. It is no longer up to the majority to try to stay away from smoke, it is now the minorities responsibility to keep it away from us. Sounds like a fair deal to me (and most of Ohio).
