I've bought lots of equipment sight unseen. For trucks I just had a local, accredited third party do a full inspection, dyno test, oil sample, ECM dump, etc. I also had the selling dealer do some of the same on their dime to compare.

Tug Toy, 77fib77 and kemosabi49 Thank this.

As for finding someone local, you can check Google reviews, search their name, BBB, etc. Even call some small to medium carriers in the area and ask for referrals.

    77fib77 Thanks this.

Do you already own a truck? Take a load out there and check the truck out.

Take the truck to it's prospective dealer example Peterbilt to Peterbilt. That's how you get all the info off the ECM and get an actual idea of the repairs ahead.
