I was trained that weapon should be twisted towards thumb of individual holding weapon.
-
Yes...makes sense.
The attackers thumb is the "pivot point", I wasn't told to twist it into the thumb...but it makes perfect sense.
I was simply told to spin it straight around...if his wrist beaks in the process, you did it right...he just held on too tight. -
kajidono,
If you were dealing with a subcompact semi auto...there is the risk of a hole in your hand, because the barrel is shorter than your hand is wide.
Its a calculated risk though... you gotta do what you gotta do. -
I have my doubts about that one working if the attacker was only using one hand to hold the pistol...serious doubts. No leverage from the other arm and he just pull back.

In reference to the above post...

Yeah, I'd have to use both arms on that. At least get his elbow with my other hand so he couldn't pull away. I like how he points that out several times though. Do not let the attacker pull back or you're dead.

Strong point against weak point. Same as someone grabbing wrist. Snap wrist towards grabbers thumb. Several different ways to accomplish the technique, but I was taught maximum destruction with minimum effort for best effect. I have not trained in years. I am sure a lot of things are taught differently now. Techniques change. Different styles use different approaches. I trained under 2 different korean styles and also trained under japanese arts and kick boxing. I have been to a lot of different seminars when I competed. I liked to mix up the styles and use what worked best for me out of all the different things I was taught.
One thing if a person is trained properly if you ever stop training the mind is conditioned even if the body no longer reacts the way it once did. The reaction is still there. My hand eye coordination is slow and my reflexes are nothing like they once was, but I do not have to think how to do something if I need to. The training I have I still use mentally. I am aware of my surroundings and I read body language. I never sit with my back to a door. I do things like look at people to determine if they are right or left handed. I look for their weaknesses. After all the time has passed I do this without thinking about it.Ridgerunner665 Thanks this. -
You must not have a concealed carry permit or you'd know that those who do have had to take training, which is primarily geared to SAFETY. Many do carry firearms in their trucks. The very fact that you don't know how many speaks volumes.
Most truckers I know are Professionals.
Now, that said, it's our German Shepherd that I take into the restroom with me late at night. I don't consider her to be a "pet" at those times. Of course that wouldn't protect against someone intent on shooting me, but she is the best early-warning device around. Her instincts about people have been right on. If she alerts, I keep my distance. -
This is exactly why you don't move with your firearm at arms length, you move with it "high and tight". That way you can hold an attacker at arms length with your weak side and fire with your strong side.
