I did computer work for 20 years, wishing I was driving the whole time. Now I drive team with my hubby, and we are having an awesome time. We drive otr, and go everywhere. We can take home time anywhere in the country. We see amazing sunsets, sunrises, and views.
There is a hovt program thru the unemployment office you might be able to qualify for that helps pay for training. I recommend getting your license and then finding a company to work for. That way, if you hate your first choice company, you can switch jobs.
There's a kind of trucking for every taste in this industry. Home daily, home weekly, home rarely, otr, local, regional. Hands off freight, or hands on manual labor. It's up to you to decide what kind of trucking you want to do.
Boring to me is the same route all the time, so I enjoy the challenge of being sent anywhere they need me to go. I prefer working as a company driver because of the risk and expenses of owning my own truck.
I am excited every time I get to drive, every day. I listen to audio books, and news, and podcasts as I drive. It's everything I thought it would be as a sat there in front of my computer.

Thank you so much. Your reply is motivational for me.

Can I ask you ,what have I to expect at payings? What is average pay and what can I get home?

Several IT guys on here made the switch and enjoy it. Give it a shot. The first few years can be tough but then opportunities start to open up.

What about my age? Could it be late to start trucking?

I started at age 50 doing mobile marketing. I did not get into commercial trucking until 2015. First time I ever bumped a dock.

If you are in reasonably good health, I think getting into trucking later in life is a perfect idea. It’s not hard work and many do it well into their years. I personally know a many in his upper seventies who owns a truck and hauls everyday. He recently said he wants to start slowing down though.

It's never too late to start trucking, as long as you pass the dot physical. Hubby and I went and took a dot physical on our own, to make sure we passed before we got started. We are over 50.
We average about 5000 miles per week at over 50 cents per mile, split between us. We also have awesome benefits - health, dental, vision, 401k with matching, health savings plan, life insurance, long and short term disability, and more.

I don’t find it boring at all but like @Super34333 said, you need to be good at driving. Are you Indian by chance? Maybe drive in the US in a car a bit before you get a CDL. So you know how our roads work.

No, go ahead and stay where you are. We are full. Feel free to drive trucks in your own country, thanks. Cheers
