Hey does anyone know first hand how much cash I will need to have available for the IRP/Apportioned tag process in North Carolina? First time registration on a used truck bought out of state. 80k gcvw, 2290 and everything else is already paid. Just waiting on the title to arrive before I head to Raleigh.

Thank you in advance and be safe!

Register somewhere else if you can. That annual personal property tax on a truck is brutal, and they are likely to value it far more than it is worth.

I just paid $1848 at the IRP office in Charlotte at end of October. So I would say between 1600 and 1900. And not sure how long ago you filed for a title, but I like you purchased tractor from out of state and NC used to do a instant title, but they have stopped that because of Covid and they told me it will take 4-6 weeks for a title. They should of given you a receipt for title, that will allow you to get a plate. Thats all i needed as I thought not having title in hand maybe a issue. It was not at all.

If you have any questions I will try my best to help. Things are done alot differently now the way they do things than they were before Covid in the IRP office in NC.

You will have to apply in person if it is your first time setting up the IRP account. That you will have to do in either the office in Raleigh or Charlotte. You do not need an appointment to do this , you have to leave all your paperwork they need but have patience as they do not allow waiting in the office anymore and will call you with questions and are done to pick up and pay.

There is a list of things online you will need to bring with you to set up the initial account. You cannot set this up online when making an IRP account.

If its a renewal you can do that online as they would have provided you with a PIN number and you should of been set a renewal with the info.

If your needing to set up an IFTA account as well, you can do that only in person in Raleigh in the same building complex as IRP. You would need to call and make an appointment for the IFTA office though. No one is allowed anymore in there office.
