I'm in the city limits and no. I was raised in the rual area. Bought my first car and many dirt bikes by mowing lawns, plowing snow, baling hay and straw. Plus painted a f ton of barns. I was not family sponsored.

 

With that said. If a young kid asked me to clear snow or mow lawn. I would pay him even if I was able bodied. Help promote the kid trying to work. I respect that.

 

Sittin here at chrome shop in wildwood. Went in to buy some wire and plugs. Well the plugs I wanted had only three of them....no wire. Did have butt connectors with shrink tube. Walking round i could loose a few thousand real quick in here ! But I resisted ! Oh and finally fixed my trailer lights ! .....now do some paper work.

 

Leave in the morning, have to be in Waynesville NC. to load a 773B cat rock truck. Might be an issue though. They want to put the outside duals up in the bed. Told them no ! We will see when I get there wed.

 

It is clear to me, that I was a child of a very different era. It was required that you contributed to the household in some manner. Really a simple deal, do your part and you get to eat, and some other things.

Today, if you treat your children in that manner, you’d be tangled up with the children’s protection system.

Your right, but I'm doing it anyhow. I was dads shadow. He had 4 trucks back then. Two sets of Ohio doubles, 3x9's, and spread all on aluminum wheels was my family contribution. Polish wheels, air tires, polish trailers. By 13 I did brake jobs, scams, wheel seals. Apparently I was raised by men of a different generation.

 

I earned my allowance by dragging my ### out of bed at 7:30 am every Saturday and spending anywhere from 1-4 hours washing dad's truck, followed by an hour of crawling under it with a flashlight and a grease gun. 30 above or 20 below didn't matter. That was on an easy weekend. If it was a brakes, oil change or other major repair weekend I'd be washing Friday night as soon as the truck came in the yard. Then Saturday was suit up and start pulling wheels or whatever was needed.

Always loved trailer repairs. Usually that meant a Saturday evening/Sunday morning ride to the millyard half an hour away to load the trailer onto the truck for Monday morning.

 

We had no allowance, it was a dictatorship. Thursday night busting down tires was more important than sleep. Pops gave us 3 boys 2 guarantees. Full belly and a roof over your head till 18. Rest was on you. One deal they did later. They would pay are liability car insurance if you carried a 3.0 average or above. Thing was, they got a discount for it. And we drove cheap junk. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I was the only kid that struggled to keep a 3.0. And the only one that trucks. Im the dumb kid.
