Just spinning out on a hard turn over a railroad track can rip the tread blocks off in chunks. I replaced this one from my Pete last weekend. RR drive inside. The LR also had a cut line across the tread from snagging the cross member on the trailer above it.
Weird tire damage

Looks like some damage to a tire I had once after going around a tight round about in CO.
Lots of gravel on the side.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
Guess I’m not the only one getting the most from my drives. I’m currently running 6 old steers, 2 Luggers, lol. I don’t blame you for trying to figure it out, before getting new ones. Looks like those are just about done.

There is a truck stop in central Oregon where the exit onto the main road has a rise of about 2 feet or a little more as you pull out onto the road. If your trailer is loaded heavy and you hit that rise just right, the same tire as in the picture will bottom out on the trailer next to the skid plate and cause damage like that, especially if the tire catches the edge of a cross beam on the trailer. I noticed it on my truck before it did much damage.
Trucker61016, wore out and tarmadilo Thank this. -
Those two tires are original Goodyear G167A’s from the trucks 1992 rebuild. 687,000 on them. Best drive tires GDY ever made. Tough as granite and never wear out. They were the last 2 of the 8 that have slowly been replaced over the last 6 years. I was looking for a reason to replace them. Lol!Trucker61016 and JoeyJunk Thank this.

Some 5th wheels have a lower profile rocker stands than others, most 5th wheels are 48" ground to top of plate. When you dump the air bags it could be getting too low to clear the tires. Check it as Lester advised, if too low you could add a spacer between frame and slider plate. That would be one way or get taller rockers, it's not a big job to change on a holland or a Fontaine . Just make sure that the locking rails are the same.
Trucker61016 and tarmadilo Thank this. -
Are you doing burnouts full throttle when bags are dumped? makes no sense. Or something is hanging down under trailer. I'm always careful, idle speed only pretty much if bags are dumped, never had a problem like that.
