Own a 2014 cascadia and im looking for options i can do to heat/cool the cab without running my truck all night.

I know you can have an apu unit installed but lets face it, that isnt cheap.

So ive been thinking about just slapping a generator on the side of my truck and running an extension cord inside to a spaceheater and mini AC unit.

Thoughts? Any other options? Maybe a cheap APU?

    Thanks

    I run a generator and carry 7.5 extra gallons of gas. Then I use a window A/C unit I fabbed a bracket for. 20201120_120912.jpg 20201120_120844.jpg 20201120_121048.jpg 20201028_142755.jpg 20201028_142745.jpg 20201028_142732.jpg

It's a venturi. Drags in fresh air so the gas engine exhaust is more diffused when it exits the stack. Helps keep sleeping truckers on this side of the dirt.

Yeah i went ahead and bout a 3500watt generator last weekend but have just been debating. It was $330 for it. Ive found used APU's for $5k. I can build a box and mount on the frame to hold my generator and noone can steel it. Was going to run its own exhaust as well and just run an extension cord inside a truck. Seems easy enough

How well do those actually work and how do they work? Off fuel or electric? And are they only heaters or AC too?

Bunk heater is for heat only in winter time. Much more efficient and safe then electrical heater in cab.
    Cheapest i found for you.Eberspacher Airtronic D2 12V (24V) diesel

Well I decided to go with the generator. I welded up a custom box and mounted it to the frame behind the cab on the passenger side. Generator is bolted inside the box and has a lock on it. Ran a weather proof box on the outside of the box to run an extension cable inside the cab. I went this was becuase I liked the idea that if it got to cold out, I could plug the block heater in to help keep the truck warm at night.

Generator is fairly quiet when box is closed. 3500w generator. My last part of finishing the project is attaching an exhaust pipe to the generator and running it outside the box. Generator dies when the lid is closed (even with vents) due to the box fillin gup with exhuast fumes.
