When it was proposed, a number of agencies and scientists said it was a bad idea to build it. Major protests over it. PG&E had so much money buried into it, they couldn’t not build it.

I sub'd for PG&E. They said don't tell anyone you work for us. Not well liked by the public.

That is one dump site... But not for the seriously radioactive stuff... The really nasty stuff that is shipped in lead lined concrete casks goes to the site... Or at least thats how I understand it from folks that I know who work out there.

Yes this is the place I'm speaking of. I remember it as Idaho Nuclear Engineering Laboratories... But it has changed names several times since then... As it also did dozens of times before that.

Yes that is one thing that they have worked on out there, as well as naval guns, nuclear powered aircraft (never became reality, but they did build the hanger for what would have been the worlds largest aircraft), nuclear waste treatment storage and management, just to get on the compound you have to pass an extensive background check... And even more extensive checks to gain access to specific parts of the facility.

The exposure tag he is talking about is a Radiation Exposure Tag... Certain places on that facility you have to have an active Radiation Exposure Monitor... Not just a tag.

A welder friend of mine did some work out there with the union... One hole he went down in they could only go down and work for 10 mins and that would max out thier exposure level for a week. He was literally paid for a 40 hour week for 10 mins of work... But he still had to be on the compound every day... Just couldnt do much of anything.

Went there in 2010, so I can't remember how long exactly they said they kept the Radiation Exposure Tag up on a board there.. Think it was over 12 months.

Longest part about the whole visit was at the gate. Paperwork, answering questions, having the truck searched. Got escorted to where I dropped the loaded trailer and hooked the empty I was taking away. Was certainly a more interesting load than going to the garden variety DC or retail location.
