Where is everyone #5

Used to have a pair on the dash at all times. The cold up there is brutal. Early 2019 I got out of the truck and went into the shop. Just couldn't handle the cold anymore. I remember being up at the Sunrise project in late 2018 and I was froze to the core within 5 minutes of being outside the truck. Took me about 90 minutes to swap out a frozen battery. Pretty much the point I said they can stick this service truck crap lol.

 

I thought you Canucks loved the cold, what the hell man

 

How hard is car hauling ? I sometimes think it would be fun until i realize u got to load and unload and secure every single one of those frickin things... rain snow or sun.... I sometimes see them hauling wrecked cars , i wonder how they get em up there ? Must be just the biggest PITA job out here ...

 

Evel Knievel loads them of course; it might not be a bad gig if all you hauled were sports cars, but then again I seen several of those things marshmallow worthy on the side of the road in my day, my extensive career

 

I enjoyed it. Lotsa walking, climbing, repositioning.
Have to be prepared. Tools, air hose, booster packs etc. As with any securment, have to do the right things. I did a lot of off the beaten paths mine sites, gas plants remote locations.
I hauled a lot of 1 tons etc. Lotsa shuffling to scale correctly. Used to remove spare tires, fire ext and tailgates and secure up front. I've gone over the scale 6lbs under.
Was harder in the winter. Everything frozen. If I had to boost it and it was full of fuel, it ran the 6+hours to the delivery.
At least if the tractor broke you just hopped into a vehicle that ran and kept warm. I've driven home with booster cables from a running vehicle to the tractor because of a bad truck alternator.

It was a nice change after 25 years as a wrench. I could have been hauling cat food and I would have loved it.

 

I try and keep everything caught up at all times, and schedule stuff away from January and feb.
Still ended up doing a rad hose and heater Booster pump this week.
Tomorrow the wife and I have to rig up 2 new buses for another contractor. 2 way radio, gps, card scanner and a camera system each.

I'm following @Superhauler. Sitting at the PFJ in Wildwood. Was smart and did reserved parking 6 hours before I got here. Delivery in the morning. Then some home time.

 

Perhaps she will then reach out to Garage Squad about that square body Cutlass.

She will know you’re not perfect, but she will appreciate the effort.

 

Years ago, I had some lady at the company I worked at asked me why I wanted to be an owner operator when I did so well as a company driver. “Because being the owner operator removes 99% of the stupid conversations that you have every day.”

It isn’t about the money. It’s the daily stupidity.

 

I heard there was a gay wannabe heavyhauler prancing around over at the chrome shop wearing some kind of lavender outfit. So I would avoid that place.
