I would run I-5 to Weed CA then US97 north to Bend OR.
That is the best route to central OR/WA and BC out of CA.
The climbs are short and easy and you stay high desert from Dorris CA through to Bend

It's kind of sad to drive through Phoenix and Talent right now and see all of the burnt down homes and businesses. Know quite a few people who lost their house or means of earning a living, and it was a result of idiot humans.

One of the wife's uncles lives in Washington and is a big off-roader. In a 70's Bronco they went up and ran the Alacan? Up and back. Said next time will be by plane or boat.

 

Use to be a truckstop there, I think it was called the Peachtree? Was a nice place to hang out.
