You say company physical. You mean "DOT" physical, right? Some companies incorporate a "company physical" in with a DOT physical, such as lifting 50 lbs dead weight etc. A normal DOT physical is pretty basic, pulse, BP, Hernia check, eyes, hearing, wee-wee in a cup etc. Some are doing this BMI thing also, Body mass index. Suppose to weed out the chubbys or red flag the sleep apnea people.
Most freight is palletized now a days, but if not, they authorize lumpers. -

i was hired on in oct 2008, and i was got a level 1 in kentucky and passed, and another the following jan. which was level 3., i have 14 years with no wrecks or tickets which helped me get in, but for a long time the people in the office didnt really give a rats ***** if you ran a load legal or not, as long as you got in there. if you told them you couldnt make a del on a load when you were dispatched, they pulled it off and assigned a crap low-mileadge run(200-300 miles).
that has changed now, after what happened in upstate, ny, now the safety dept. is watching driver hours, but there is a clear miscommunication between safety and dispatch, and the night & weekend people are utter morons. also they have jettisoned the health insurance for some half-####"health savings plan", which is worth zilch if something happens and you wind up in the e.r. , plus, they have a lot of old trailers(namely the maroon colored ones) which are worthless, have a million leaks, and constantly having to be fixed, mostly because of idiots who drop them at shippers with bad lights, tires, etc.
on the plus side, the dispatchers are decent to work with, and they usually leave you alone, the trucks are nice, and they are getting a lot of new units in(rumor has it they are looking at the new t700's), and maintenance isnt too bad.
as for freight, count on staying mostly east of the mississippi, mostly beer loads(be careful with the bulkheads!!!!)that are up to 500 miles, not bad if you are regional, but if you like staying out for 3 or more weeks, dont count on a lot of long distance stuff.
im not sure if the drop of health insurance and the sudden crackdown on logging is a sign of trouble ahead, but im keeping my options open.rixter9146 Thanks this.
