And good night from Gary, IN.

At the Love's tonight, hoping I can get out in the morning to deliver this too late load.
A storm is moving through, but it hasn't been that bad.
The worst part is the drivers on the road.
People going 40-45 when the road is only a bit wet, holding up traffic far behind them.

Assuming all goes well in the morning I will be picking up a Lowe's load going down to Kansas City.

    FerrissWheel Thanks this.

Near Brooklyn, IA at the Kwik Star.
I wasn't able to get to a Walmart today, but this place had whole roast chicken.

Wonderful day today, except for my enforcer lock freezing up.
Even pounding it with a hammer didn't work. So I bobtailed out and went to a truck stop to get a butane torch and some anti-ice stuff. The torch worked nicely.

Now on a Lowe's load going to Wichita, KS.

I-80 in IA is littered with cars and trucks in the ditch from yesterdays storm.

    FerrissWheel and dptrucker Thank this.

due to heavy snow on i70 aroumd hail he decided to come here to switch.
I need to get to the shop tomorrow b4 they close at 1500. so I can get a 90 day inspection ( bit service).

Lots of snow the past few days.

I read about that 40 vehicle pile up on I-80 in IA, but when I went through there today there was no sign of it.
But still quite a few ditched cars and trucks along the stretch I drove today.

I didn't get that far today, only to Osceola, IA.
Another storm that stretched all the way down to Wichita, KS where I'm delivering.
As soon as the roads started getting covered I shut down.

I can't say enough about the mentality of some drivers.
The road is getting covered in snow. The left lane was completely covered because no one wanted to travel there and we were all just taking our time at 45-50, and everyone giving plenty of space.

Then a car followed by a big rig comes barreling through on the left, which sent snow flying everywhere enough to make the road hard to see.
Then a few more, and a few more. That is when I got off the road to stop here at the Pilot.
    I wasn't the only one.

    But really!
With all the vehicles in the ditch along the way, and with a 40 vehicle pile up to boot... one would think people would get the hint and show a little more restraint.

left lupton az around 0430 and got to terminal around 1500.
shop closes at 1430 so wasn't able to check in truck for the bit service.
had a rollover semi that looks like they just put it back on it's wheels south of Barstow ca .
so that didn't help much lol.
tomorrow is my day off and have things to do. so not going to put truck in shop till maybe Wednesday if I get back early.

I don't trust those things, even if they exist for trucks.

No all-season tires at Swift, and the traction control in trucks leaves much to be desired.
Just like most of the 'safety features' in these new trucks.

It happens to OTHER people is not my motto out here.
My motto is... It WILL happen to me, unless I...

And it was quite a different story when I was driving cars.

Selecting the best tire was something of a hobby of mine, because I would go places in the dead of winter.
Bay Area to Lake Tahoe or Reno with blizzard conditions... No problem because I had the right tires and I could control a skid.
No anti-lock brakes back then either.
The only times I would not make the trip (for an hour of gambling and then back home) was when chains were mandatory even with snow tires.
I hate chaining up, and chaining down.

Trucks are a different story though.
And sadly, too many don't respect the limitations that trucks actually have.

In that 40 vehicle pile up in IA there were 2 cop cars totaled by a semi.
They were helping other people and not in the cars at the time, thankfully.

Happy as a clam rolling along in bad weather until... everyone is piled up in front of you, and you have nowhere to go and no traction to do it in.

    dptrucker and FerrissWheel Thank this.
