I left just in time yesterday. Still sore from shoveling snow. Ain’t going home till the end of March to renew our D/L’s. Appointments only, all booked up till May or June. Luckily found an opening in Davisburg. 50 miles away.
What if it Snows?

I went on a lot of charters out of Crockett, almost under the I 80 Carquinez Bridge. Out into San Pablo Bay or up toward the Delta. Depending on the tides and time of year we might troll for stripers or go for Sturgeon. Also catch Flounder and one El Nino year an occasional Halibut. I was set to go on a charter out of San Francisco out to the Farallons but when the day came the wind was at Gale strength and it didn't go. Now I pretty much stay within a few hours of home.InTooDeep, D.Tibbitt, SoulScream84 and 4 others Thank this.

I’m adding Tanker to my License. Used to have everything except Bus. I think it’s only 10 maybe 20 questions. I better study just in case. I’d sure hate to pay and fail. Contemplating a Twic card next. I’ve been against it, as a protest for all the years I had hazmat, suddenly they need my fingerprints. Oh well guess my Principles will have to take a backseat to Tyranny. Monday it’s costing Me $100 for escort, because I don’t have one. So much for Principles. Guess I’ll just get one. Often when Loads are scarce, I miss out on a decent Load, because I don’t have a twic card.

If you get out here again try the charters out of Ft. Bragg or Eureka. Those guys can find the fish. If the salmon aren't biting they'll fill out the trip with ling cod or halibut. Good eating any way you go.dwells40, InTooDeep, homeskillet and 7 others Thank this.

I’d like to catch a Musky. I went trolling once on Detroit River with my Uncle. Didn’t get any. He was a local Legend at the Marina. He had a 15 hp, and a homemade foot controlled steering spool. Rent a 15 ft fishing boat. Old Guy was something else. You use steel line, and great big heavy pencil sinkers, Troll along bouncing line off the bottom. Also the best Walleye fishing. They move down from up north, eventually they make it to Lake eerie. That’s the absolute best spot, for walleye. But Lake St. Clair, north of Detroit has so many, 13” minimum keeper size, compared to 15” fir the rest of Michigan. Also have perch running all summer. Easy to catch 50-100, maybe 200 or more. No limit. Problem now is Canadian Chemical plant poisoning the fish. Can’t eat much of it. Don’t really want to anymore.D.Tibbitt, SoulScream84, LoSt_AgAiN and 3 others Thank this.

Redfish...you can't beat 'em for eatin'. Two Labor Days ago my oldest son and I took the camper down to Padre Island and spent time on the beach surf fishing. Caught a few reds for dinner. Tasted better than any I've had at a restaurant. There's just something about a fire on the beach that can't be beat.dwells40, D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and 5 others Thank this.

When I was a kid I used to go fishing in the summers with my grandpa in central Minnesota. Caught my first walleye when I was 8 yrs old and I talked about it for days. Good memories.Opus, D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and 5 others Thank this.
