Actually, I already started. I arrived 10/19; however, I was not on the list and was sent home after my physical and drug test. At least I received my 2 year DOT card. Anyways, I will be headed up there again on the 16th and will keep everyone posted on the training and trainers. I will then start a new thread for my first, however long I stay there, as I am not signing any contracts. Anyways, keep an eye on here for some unbiased information on the academy. I posted it in the bad section because that is where most of the Swift threads are.![]()

I always belived that how something turned out was based on what you make of it. You seem to have a bad agttitude about Swift. If so why work for them? I am currently finishing my 6 weeks with my mentor. I work for Swift. He has been with Swift for 8 years and likes woking for them. I have had good expiernences and havew learned a lot. I have read your other posts and realize that you have a good plan for your life. Just remember the saying "The best laid plans of mice and men". All plans seem good until they are implemented. Then they always seem to fall apart.
Read the post by ford390pwr titled Swift Traing Academy. He had good training and is doing good with Swift.
Good luck and keep a good attitude while training. And remember there are good posta about Swift and alot of other companies on this forum.RoyBennitt Thanks this. -
You say you are "not signing any contracts"... I don't know for sure... but I think that if you go into their training academy and get their training, you will be committed to them for (I think) a year.
I think if you tell them you aren't signing a contract (in exchange for the training) that they will send you home to look for another job.
Good luck though. -
I did not mean to sound as if I had a bad attitude toward the company; after all, they are giving me the chance to obtain my CDL. I just posted here because I see a lot of bad information on SWIFT in this particular sub-forum. I am going to the academy in an attempt to make the best of the situation, and am going to relay unbias information about it here. If it is good, my posts will reflect that. If it is bad, it will reflect that as well. Thanks for directing me to the other post, I enjoyed reading it.

Good luck. At least with Swift you should have job security. You'll know in a couple of months if this is the life for you.

I think it will sure beat law enforcement, which I have been in for 11 years. After hours of research and many interviews with current drivers, I feel that this is really the only career that I would enjoy. Some girl told me the other day that Swift let her go with not knowing much, and she wrecked after 6 months (hit the building while trying to dock), so she has a horrible impression about Swift. However; after 6 months, no matter the training, you should at least know how to bump a dock. So, I told her it was not Swift's fault and she almost jumped on me. lol!

So, the job security is there while the freight is very low at the moment? That is very lovely news.

If you do alright, your job will probably be secure. That does not mean though that you will be making money, you will just have a secure job.

I realize the pay is low, but I have to take the bad with the good. Swift is one of the companies giving me a chance. So, if it means I wont get paid as much as I feel I am worth the first 13m, so be it. I will move on to greener pastures. I am continuing to research companies I may be interested in after my 1 year OTR with Swift. I am going by the suggestions from this site.

What about law enforcement do you not like? I know many people who love the job, plus the job security. My daughter boy friend father just retired from law enforcement.. With his retirement he is making more off the job then he did.. His last yr on the force (32 yrs) he made $75,000. His first yr on retirement he will make $122,000. Not bad for a cop... I do not see you making any thing over $30,000 if that your first yr...
