I know that Mack has merged with Volvo. But I dont see so many Macks on the road today as in the past. Has Mack gone down in value or is the truck too expensive? The recent merger with Volvo may mean that either Mack is going to be the better or the worse of the line. What is your opinion of Mack today?

Still plenty of them out west, but they are nearly all vocational. Most are either dumps or mixers with a few pumpers mixed in. Almost no OTR Macks here, but it's been that way for a long time.

I think the merger was good in some aspects. Mack drivetrain has been pretty much bullet proof, but their electronic engines weren't the best. Volvo has actually improved that aspect. Fortunatly Mack chassis wiring is still Mack. I'd swear Volvo uses Lucas wiring in their own trucks, always some kind of electrical issue with them.

Word on the street is that Mack engineering will be moving in with Volvo at the end of the year. Volvo has lost a lot of market share this year, seems they have no real intention of pursuing anything in this economy. On the other hand they're already advertising a lot for their 2010 compliant engines.

If you had a choice between Mack and Volvo, which would you choose?

I see Volvo as a parasite. They'll move in exploit a brand name and milk it for all they can until it's dead. Only a matter of time before the phrase "built like a Mack truck" will be followed by laughter.

Mack tough will be around for a while, they are dominating the refuse and construction industries, Military is going Mack (they are getting non egr MP8'S at 525hp) Mack sales numbers have been higher than Volvo The Titan would be a great sucess if it would be priced more in line with the competion but you get what you pay for The MP8 with SCR has been uprated to 505hp I know of several MP8 485's getting mid 7's beating Cat and Cummins in the same application by a about a 1mpg

The Merger had to happen the E7 is a great motor but was not designed to be 04 compliant let alone 2010 Mack could not build a new motor on its own

Where have you been? That merger happened many years ago. It wasn't just recent.

Peterbilt.... But I could just be being bias.
