I'm tired of paying the outrageously high highway use permits in NM and OR. I avoid KY altogether, and only recently did I learn that NY also has some screwy independent bureaucracy to cow-tow to. Can anyone explain in plain English how to go on-line or otherwise complete the paperwork for these states, so that I can stay legal. I don't want to pay some company to do it for me, so please no solicitations. Despite the initial confusion and hassle, I know that somehow fulfilling the legalities here is not that hard to do...

YOU CAN GOOGLE THE STATE, KY, NY, NM, ETC. AND APPLY FOR THE PERMITS THRU THE WEBSITE. iF YOU DON'T RUN OR. VERY OFTEN, IT IS CHEAOER TO BUY TRIP PERMITS, WHICH CAN ALSO BE PURCHASED ON LINE.

You have to watch with NY though.
They have an extra milage rate they tack on whenever you use any road that is not the turnpike.
No HUD sticker needed anymore, but the extra use tax is still there.

Thanks for the help! I still don't see how to get a permit on-line with any state except Oregon. NY Oscar seems to be undergoing some major changes, as noted and I don't see what I'm supposed to do. Also, I found out from OOIDA that AR and NJ require form completion as well....While I'm at it, does anyone know how to go about getting a refund for the reefer taxes I paid at the pump? This isn't big money relative to the tractor fuel of course, but if I can get these form filling skills down, I might be able to recover enough money to pay for the bother of doing it....

    List of NM permits

You should be able to find the phone number for them as well on that page.
