I've had 2 overweight in the 15 months I've been driving. First one was all on me, no defense or excuse. I was 800 over coming into Utah. Second one was recent. It was a convoluted set of events. Got loaded in L.A. at a little Mom and Pop type place. Load was only supposed to be 38,000. I was right by the I-5 and not wanted to deal with L.A. mess to wherever the nearest scale was, hopped on the I-5 and figured I'd run through the PFJ in Castaic. Being only 38,000, I wasn't too worried. Chances were I was just fine anyway. Before I got to Castiac, got pulled into an open weigh station in California. Rolled through no problems, I figure I'm good. Heading North, I got pulled through another open weigh station and once again, rolled through no problems. I figured I was fine. Got pulled into the P.O.E. weigh station in Oregon and wham, I was 1600 over on my tandems and at 79,600 total. My cargo was actually 44,800. So, lesson learned, never assume on weights. Even if one weigh station let's you roll through.
Fortunately, neither broke the bank. Utah overweight was $52.20 and Oregon overweight was $150.bentstrider83 Thanks this. -
So the "Cat Scale Guarantee" came through for you? Cat Scale paid the fine? Obviously documented then. You have nothing to worry about. Nice to hear that CS followed up on their promise

CAT Scale only guarantees the gross weight not the axle weights.

Figured I would add more on a weight ticket.
I got 300 lbs over gross in Florida recently.
No points against my cdl and no record of it on my cdl.
Everything went against the company. They even made out the ticket so they were the responsible party for payment. -

Daily I see overweight violations on mvrs. Yes, they are 0 points, but they still show up......and astute underwriters will be concerned.....if overweight, what other safety related thing has the driver let slip. -
