Why should anyone (union or non-union) hurry up to load/unload you when you give them 2 free hours at every dock you bump?

if it took 2 hours to load at some of these union places that would be great......problem is they seem to take 5 to 10 hours to do what could be done in 1-2. I have no problem with pacing yourself, but there is a limit and unfortunately my experience with unionized places hasn't been very good. It seems like an umbrella for all the lazy slackers to hide under. I love how you go into some of these places and nobody knows anything. I go to the office and they tell me to talk to "jim" out back. Nobody knows where Jim is. Guy #1 says "duuurrr, my job is just to paint numbers on this piece of metal". Guy #2 says "oooh, shiny lights". Guy #3 says "all I know how to do is count these pieces of metal...this is my first day". Finally Guy #4 shows some hope but says "I'll look for Jim after coffee break number 10 this morning".

but yeah...I guess theres no problem with that hey? Unions had their place during the industrial revolution but not in the last 50 years.

now i never could understand how most of you can be so kind to each other over a #### log book, something so chicken #### its pathetic.

a log book is in fact a personal record of what YOU do and it is nobody Elise's business, and for all you English teachers out there, it is not illegal to misspell a word or to be sloppy with your log book and no you can not get a ticket for it and as a matter of fact the DOT doesn't give a #### as long as they can read it .

it seems there are a few out there that think there going to change the industry by teaching everyone proper English well i got a news flash for you IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN you wont last long enough to even come close.

the biggest thing about this business that makes it worth while is the freedom to pretty much do as you please when you leave the dock you do it your way with nobody looking over your shoulder it sure as hell ain't for the money.

as far as the log book i think it is worthless the DOT and the powers that be cant even get it right, wasn't anything wrong with it when they changed it now there trying to change it again if they find fault with it how can you experts say its wright you all need to stick to driving a truck and stop bashing each other over a piece of trash that has no useful purpose At all.

now Ive only been out here a couple of days but i no better then to bash a driver for useless nonsense , so he cant spell, so his book is sloppy, so its not up to date , so what does it cost you anything , surly you can find something more to complain about then a worthless log book, your about to show your intelligence.

when you get your own house in order then look for something else to whine about but at least try to make it worth while and if its not to much to ask make it constructive hell you never no you might learn something in the process.

enough of my rant but log books and English teachers are a pet peeve of mine and I'm here to tell you they ain't gonna change a thing .

best of luck to all.---southerenpride--traveling hells highway:biggrin_25510:

Been to just as many if not more non-union shippers/receivers where 5-10 hours was the norm.
Like I said, as long as you sit around for free and then bury the unpaid waiting in your logbook, people will abuse your time.
Call a plumber or a cab to your house and tell him to sit in your driveway 2 hours for no pay.
See how many are still there after 1 minute.
But the Great American Trucker is supposed to put up with that BS and more.
Well not on my account I can assure you.

OTR trucking a negotiation??? since when? You 'll take whatever they give you and You WILL like it or get the F*** out!
Since I started 15 years ago, I make less money consistently every year for at least the last 5-7 years and instead of being out 5 days and home 2, I am EXPECTED to stay 4-6 weeks and only get 2-4 days off. I dont recall the company even asking me if that was okay, cuz they dont care!
So please tell me when the negotiations start so I can be sure to be there!!!

let's see if I got this right. Negotiations start after we pay Jimmy Hoffa's goons their "initiation" fees and monthly vig, oops I mean, dues and before they rob the pension funding, right???
This will be fun. Let's ask YRC how the teamsters have helped them RIGHT OUT OF WORK!!!
