Do we need to sign up for IFTA if we travel in 2 states and pull our own equipment? (we are not a freight company) What about a DOT #?

if you cross state lines you have to have a ifta sticker.private or for hire doesn't matter on dot,you have to have it.
-
what type of vehicle (s)? -
we are pulling a 30ft car trailer ,with a f350 dually. currently no ifta stickers, gross vehicle weight combined is 27000lbs.
-
The GVW for IFTA is 26,001 lbs. If you go over it, then you are required to have IFTA if you are commercial.dieselbear Thanks this.

thats what i said, but so often the person in the office seldom knows anything about otr trucking. but since they have been doing it this way for years without getting caught, its hard to convince them whats right. dot rarely even gives our trucks a second look, as most would not realize that they are class A vehicles.

I would not count on that in the future. I commercially haul RV's. I received 2 level 1's in the same week. Both were very interested in weight and IFTA as well.

im destined for a fine at some point.

You said it, "without getting caught". One time caught would have paid for it to begin with. Check that, one time caught is far more expensive than just getting it to begin with. Had a jack arse company the other day that thought they did not need apportioned tags or IFTA (these were 18 wheelers) that were running through 5 State's. Funny how we got 5 of the 10 trucks in the company. The other 5 stayed put. After we hit all 5 for over $2000.00 each I guess the company shut it down. -
i have convinced them to at least get my truck an ifta sticker. thats why i always send emails to everybody i can think of. theres no way they can say its my fault when we get caught without one.
