My Walmart Journey

Good luck to you man!! Take a notebook, pay close attention to everything the CDT tells you & shows you.

 

At our onboarding they gave us a pre trip study guide on how they wanted the pre trip done. However they do not want a mechanics view on naming each part. For example: instead of naming all the steering parts just touch the gear box & say all the steering components while moving your hand across all the parts.Just have some knowledge when you point or touch anything under the hood. Go to youtube & look for Junior Honduras (Prime transportation) i learned a lot about the engine parts because it was a Freightliner.

On Monday they showed us how they wanted the pre trip done, coupling & uncoupling, trailer inspection etc. We had to tell them how to do the air brake test & how to set the tandems. You have 30 minutes to pre-trip truck, coupling,trailer & uncoupling.
Backing: You have 20 minutes to back the trailer into the slot. My trainer done it in about 5 minutes, it took me 12-15 minutes each day. G.O.A.L. They will show you one time how to set up correctly so stay in front of the line with your notebook, watch & take notes!! It`s tight so 90 would be accurate. Three point contact getting in & out of truck is very important, automatic failure if you don`t do it.
I have always pulled doubles & drove automatics my entire career, so i was behind the eight ball going to onboarding, but i remembered floating & double clutching in CDL school. Tuesday, Wednesday were all practice days, but with prayer & help from Jesus i passed everything on Thursday.

 

On your road test: When you see a stop sign start slowing down & stop before approach the sign or the white line on the pavement, believe or not i ran the stop sign coming out of the DC on my first day. I was looking for the line on the pavement instead of focusing on the stop sign.
If the sign reads 35mph do 30mph, 45 mph do 40 mph etc, i got warned several times about driving 3-5 miles over the speed limit.
Every DC may be different IDK, i had a different CDT each day & each one done things a little different than the other.
Best advice: Listen, take notes & after class instead of rushing back to the Hotel go outside to were everything is set up & walk around the truck, trailer & walk inside the cones where the back up will take place. Practice your pre trip before you head back to the Hotel, when the CDT`s saw us doing this they were impressed & came back out there to answer questions & help us again.

glad they teach how to set up for backing, i wouldnt think anyone with enough experience to apply would know how to back up a truck yet lol

 

how to pass everything at walmart: play dumb and pretend its your first road test ever, throw all logic and reason used in the real world out the window. the walmart way is the only way, well untill the Amazon way becomes the only way. lol
