1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

In 1996, I quit a local driving job and wanted to go back to OTR. Only 2 companies would talk to me. C.H. Dredge in Salt Lake city and FFE, Lancaster, Tx. C.H. Dredge was swallowed up by Prime and FFE is still there, same management. I called at least 60 companies.

WTF I was otr for 10 years then went local an some otr and had trouble getti hired. WHAT do you think I forgot hell I can still tell you how to get from point a to point b without and atlas( to some of you that is a map). Problem is they don't count that and yes I had to come back with FEFE and I hate it. Worse company I ever drove for but bidding my time so I can get another job. Try FFE they will let you drive it sucks but it gets you back out there. Fried Tater quit being an ###

I'd think that persistance and working the smaller companies might payoff. Stressing safe driving, good work ethic (as opposed to what passes for that with the younger crowd), etc and past experience vs "R E C E N T".

Do refresher course with a company that will pay for ur schooling, or if u got the money do it that way, and ur gonna have to start at the bottom but anywhere is better than nowhere.....
star would be a good place to start for ya...
30 cents a mile starting with 2000 miles a week, and home 3 of 4 weekends....

    Again,
Trucking Applications are what "you make" of them.
I have never seen an Employment Verification form requesting
    Operation information.

Company's can not verify what States you have or have not run.
Just make sure the last 3 years are gap free, with good contact information.
If you have a DAC/MVR history, make the app line up and your all set.

I hope at least some realize that all local gis are not 9-5 with an hour lunch break and a nap.

I worked local flatbed, which was 4 states, VA, NC, MD and DE. I ran 10 - 12 hours a day some days were 15 hours, multiple stops, I ate while driving if I ate at all, yes I was on the clock, but I still had a certain # of stops to make, some days started at 3 am, and some days ended at 8 pm.
and some of the places we delivered to were just as tight as places Ive been to in NYC. I don't believe you are any less qualified to drive OTR just because your "Local"

It used to be you had to have OTR to get the local job.

yes I was off Sat and Sun.

Prior to that I was N.E Regional for 3 years, not home everynight.

Id love to have another local gig, but it seems to be a catch 22, no local without recent OTR, No OTR without recent OTR.

Ive been out of the truck for 1 1/2 years. Still have the license and just got a TWIC card, hopefully I will be able to get back in sometime.

Just because your Local doesnt mean your 9-5.

Only one problem with that statement FT. It's called " False Application". If you say you worked for Zebra Trucking and drove 48 states and the check with Zebra Trucking (which they are required to do) which tell them that you drove local. you will not get hired.

Why do you keep saying working 7 days a week for 2-8 weeks ? Ever hear of the 70 hours in 8 days rule ? Haven't you read the posts by drivers crying about waiting 2 or 3 days for a load after unloading ? Can you substaniate local drivers take a midday nap ?

Check with Zebra Trucking all you want !
All they can do is VERIFY YOUR TENURE (If you worked there and how long,"verify dates") Company's can long longer ask the questions they used to.

READ THE EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION FORM !
