CHARITON, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a truck driver who died after his rig hit a cow in the middle of a road in southern Iowa.
The Iowa State Patrol says 55-year-old Calvin Dixson, of Lucas, was killed on Tuesday after he lost control of the semitrailer, which went into a ditch and then a creek.
The accident happened on Iowa Highway 14 between Chariton and Millerton.

this also happened a few years ago on I-24 in southern Illinois, when a driver hit a dead cow in the road, and lost control went into the median then went into concrete wall of a creek. that crashed killed that driver also. can't remember the year, but i believe it was over 10 years or more ago.
i think the farmers better do a better job of checking their fences to keep those cows contained.

I remember 1 in Texas several years ago and it wasnt funny but the cow was on open range and the guy who owned the cow sued and got it paid for.

Texas law says you're responsible if your livestock gets out of your fences.

Yes I know this because at age 18 I hit and killed a registered black limousin bull that had just been delivered from South American 3 days prior. It bent my ford F100. The bull hadn't been milked or bred yet. $20,000 down the drain for that farmer.

I had a bruise on my leg for almost a year from the steering wheel.

You know a cow is like a deer, you don't stop just nail them. Then pull over and make sure it's not suffering. I bet he braked and swerve....not happening in this truck.

Heck two years ago my partner got herself a buffalo out west....okay it was a dead buffalo and we needed a new bumper but she never braked hit it head on.
