To move mine 170 miles over state lines but no weigh stations in route I purchased non trucking insurance from progressive since I did not have a DOT number.

I ran with no tag just a bill of sale and dated title and a paper log book.

I thoroughly crawled all over my old dog for hours before I bought it so I felt it could pass a roadside inspection if it had to.

Good brakes in adjustment with legal depth tires and no fluid or air leaks will cover most problems.

I'm definitely going to have to go thru a weigh station. Missouri to Chicago-land. Forget about getting it home to Utah.

Just insure the truck, get a bill of sale and drive the dang thing home. Just make sure its in mostly working order, lights, functional brakes and decent tires. Don't think most weight stations will worry much about a bobtail. Or just travel at night or GO AROUND THE WEIGHT STATIONS
