I like the happy medium, and most of the time I like to be 500 miles or less from home. That doesn't work for everybody though.
Hot markets.

When some dildo loses it and crashes through the median, or a curve, or a ramp, or just causes a big one in front of you, ask yourself how many dollars ahead are you with folded up truck and trailer?
Brettj3876 and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Well, I have to admit. I’ve been somewhat out of my normal loop. Been chasing dollars, like I used to. Been interesting. I got to thinking about my statement of being ready to change. I’ve gotten stuck in a pattern that has worked for 10 yrs. It all started as a result of Truck shortages on the coast, during multiple hurricanes. I made some good contacts. Got too comfortable. Been trying to keep in the loop with as many as possible. But market rates should be most important. So I’m trying different lanes. The only problem is if things get real slow, I risk losing my steady sure thing. I honestly don’t have much to lose, or much time left Trucking. It’s a dilemma. I believe in working to live, not living to work. This job can become your whole life. My wife and I have been on somewhat of an early retirement for 5 yrs now. She’s worse than a Driver, with all the places she won’t go. Lol. Had to leave her home on my blizzard trip this week. I’ve definitely been more productive. Oh well, not complaining. Main thing for me is having choices. Without choices, there’s no freedom.

Pretty much. Protect from freeze, had to be there same day by 3 and order didn’t come in until 9am. Storms rolling in making shipping the next day impossible and not acceptable anyway. Lack of trucks due to bad weather. Just a lot of things. It was also medical related. Money was secondary to results. The carrier ended up rolling in at 2:56. Four minutes to spare. Critical mission accomplished! I actually love that stuff. More important the freight the more it interests me and try to thrive in that environment.Brettj3876, Ruthless, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.

I still have nightmares from running refrigerated in the early to mid 90's. I suppose it's different now.
I've managed to make some good paying last minute dry van moves though.
I really miss my cryogenic tanker but that's not coming back anytime soon.Midwest Trucker Thanks this.
