I remember a case in Texas where a tow truck driver was shot and killed by a homeowner when he was attempting to tow his car. The judge let the guy off saying he was defending his property on private property.
    `
Another guy in Texas shot and killed a tow truck driver at a motel.

This is extortion at the point of a hook.
Wonder if anyone has just locked up their cab, took the keys, and just left it all sit? what a cluster.
After it makes a goat rodeo out of the road for a couple hours, maybe they would act sensible.

What if he did only charge the trucking company the rate he told you? What if the trucking company is trying to gouge you? That would be cold....

You didn't have your 1000 in cash emergency fund
That I tell all road drivers to have.
    Not a credit card,not a debit card.
    Cold hard cash.
None of this would have been a issue.

Your leasing, you should have paid the bill yourself.
You had to borrow money from the company to
    Get out of a bind.
You have to pay for that.
That third hour was the company's cut for having
To foot the bill for independent contractor.
    That loan wasn't free.

All that should be in your lease contract.

The company didn't pay the bill. They used my maintenance account to pay it, which is why they were supposed to call me back after they got the cost of the service

    Rideandrepair and Doealex Thank this.

I don’t see the point, I have a $4500 bill for a ditched truck removal with one wrecker and two hours worth the work, that’s what it cost to get it out, I watched the work on face time, it was a big mess. And this was because some idiot decided to do donuts in the road in front of the truck.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario where I would work on icy/snowy roads pulling truckers out of ditches, while risking my neck every moment. Especially in an age where you can get on Youtube and see just how you are going to die.

I think the charge would be at least $1000 per hour but of course I'd never do it.

The Company doesn’t care, it’s not their money being spent. Need to communicate better. Dont be intimidated. The only bargaining chip you have is before you OK the Job. Once you pay, your power is lost. It happens all the time, in all sort of Businesses. They’ll do it everytime, if they think no one cares.

I was in the towing biz years ago. If the police call for the tow, it cost's more $$$, because the tow co responds immediately. that's if they want to keep their contract. Depending on the contract, they might charge from their yard and back to their yard. They might also have a minimum charge and some will charge a full hour or a partial hour, like, 30 min work but charge for the full hour.
