First of thank you for all the advice.
I am purchasing my first truck I live in Illinois.

    It’s a 2007 Mack granite cv713
    The truck gvwr is 56,000
    Empty weight is 24,500
    I need to carry 13 tons “26000”

how do I know if I will be over weight or ok.

I know this might be a dumb question but I appreciate the help

Did you actually weigh the truck?

You need a tape measure and the weights and measures regulations for your state or states you are running. Seems like every state has different regulations. It's all based on number of axles and spacing

Check to see if you have a suspension gauge on the dash. Scale your first load and look to see what the gauge is registering. That should give you a good ballpark for future loads.

If you're buying from a private party they should know what the empty weight is.

If you're buying from a dealer ask if you can drive the truck to a quarry and get on a scale.

The last thing you want to do is buy a truck that's too heavy and can't carry the weight that you need.

You need to know the weight of the truck unloaded and full of fuel and what your state weight limits are.

The truck may have a GVW of 56k but you likely will not be able to haul that much. All depends on the weight laws where you haul.

    lester Thanks this.
