    Hello,

I recently purchased a Freightliner Cascadia 2013 DD13 Engine. I’ve had the truck for 2 days & recently went to my local mechanic to do a PM Service. After doing so the truck had trouble starting, I understand certain. Times air can get into fuel lines of truck if filters were put on improperly. After 30-45 minutes we finally got the truck running and changed the filters again. It still gave some trouble but eventually it became steady. My mechanic told me my fuel pump is weak and it shouldn’t have taken that long for the truck to turn back on.. I purchased this truck from Penske. The truck has low miles and was a leased to a local customer throughout its life span. What can I do to make sure my fuel pump is isn’t bad? Any troubleshooting or advice l. Any beneficial advice would be really really appreciated!

    TRYING TO
    KEEP IT MOVING!!

"What can I do to make sure my fuel pump is isn’t bad?"
Have it tested, or simply replace it with a new unit.

"My mechanic told me my fuel pump is weak..."
    Did he actually test it?
And if he did and found a problem, why was it not replaced?

Maybe you should find a different mechanic?

    MOBee and Captain23 Thank this.

There is a manual hand priming pump on the fuel filter housing.
Just pump it somewhere in the neighbourhood of 150-250 times, try to start for only five seconds. If not, pump it more, should get some resistance this time. should fire up.
Don’t just lean on the starter, the fuel pump will run dry. It requires fuel to lubricate it.
Also NEVER change the oil and fuel filters at the same time. Do one, start the truck. Then do the other. Engine can sieze.

Get another mechanic, sounds like a parts changer and will just take your money.

    take it to the dealer.

Doesn't the fuel pump turn on with the key. Builds pressure then shuts off waiting for the engine to fire up.

    ?????

$1250 dollars, plus about four hours labor.

The fuel pump has a priming port. A good shop will have a priming pump. You can't say the pump is weak just because the mechanic didn't know how to prime it or didn't have a priming pump.

Did you find metal in the fuel filters? The DDDL software will show how much pressure the pump is generating and that is the next place to look if you suspect it is failing. I wouldn't suspect that if the truck starts and runs OK now.
