So, by your admission, your company encourages you to break the law by not carrying the proper equipment, given the weather conditions of the last 15 days, nationwide, I've heard of drivers using chains in Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas and other states where they would never normally need them. Now, following your logic (and others) you should park until spring thaw, but, given the weather conditions of the last couple of weeks, there's a very real chance you could have been ordered by some state official, or simply by common sense (not likely, but that's a different thread) to get off the road, but, since by your admission your company does not provide you with the proper equipment, instead, you would be a traffic hazard, or contributing to hazardous conditions.
So, I'm curious, given the conditions of the last two weeks nationwide, had you been ordered to use those improper chains, what exactly would your response have been to the cop telling you to put your chains on to get of a hazardous situation and move to a safer location, pound salt, screw off, bugger off, or my boss said I don't have to?nredfor88 Thanks this. -

Last Saturday, I-70 west, just east of Cove Fort, UT, around 2pm, chain lights were on, the snow was just about ending, the right lane was nice and clear, not even any ice, the plows must have kept up with it. 5 trucks pulled over chaining up only to soon find out they'd be clickety clacking up a clear right lane.
Who's in charge of determining when to turn on and off the chain lights? DOT or Highway Patrol?D.Tibbitt and Trucker61016 Thank this. -

It doesn't matter what size chains you carry. If you are never going to use them.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
If your company is not interested in making sure that you are adequately equipped to handle any situation, including problem causing cold white crap that somehow DOESN'T close the road (in which case, the decision is made for you and creates another problem), then it's time to rethink your choice of employer....
Just saying.... -
If you are going to hang tire chains it would make sense to carry the correct size for the tire I would think..not that you have to install em.
Like many things, knowledge is good to have, even if never applied to a situationnredfor88, Cowboyrich, striker and 2 others Thank this. -
