By law, you can carry under 100 lbs of propane in a vehicial and not be placarded. Thats the law and my 23 years in the propane industry.

The only problem you will have is some tunnels! The Bay Bridge is one No filled propane tanks and many other tunnels. Now, this is the large bottles (17-20#) ones you see on your BBQ Grill and the front of RV's ect. Those little hand held bottles are ok.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
If the grill hose is set up for a 20 pounder ( typicial grill gas tank) you can buy an adapter from an RV store to use the little 1 pounders found at Wallmart, Dicks and Gander Mountian. You'll have no problem with these.

the grill is set up for 1# already. I am thinking those will be fine, and I could probably find them in bulk for cheap online....or I was going to get an adapter to put a full tank on it...I have a smallish grill at home with a full tank and it lasts like 6 months of regular use.
-
Once again I would advise against the full tank! Get caught one time and you will have lost any savings you made eating and cooking in the truck! Not to mention the points you could rack up on CSA2010!
Burgs Thanks this. -
very true....I should just be satisfied with being able to have a propane grill with me period....good call

I dont understand what rule he would be in violation of. I agree he might limit his routes do to "no hazmat". But other then that there is no violation carring 20 # propane tank.
-
I doubt you will get stopped on a bridge or tunnel. I think it is illegal to stop in those places most of the time anyway. I guess if there is a weigh station, or roadside inspectors at the end of the bridge, you should worry.
The way this country is turning out is amazing...
No propane tanks as you might blow the bridge up??? Does the sign say anything about TNT, nitroglycerin, ammonium nitrate mixed with fuel oil, or PETN as being banned? How bout thermonuclear devices? -
I guess this is another reason to use charcoal cooker/smokers. One day I am going to put my WSM on my truck... I have thought about bolting it to the crosswalk, and maybe putting clamps on the sections to keep it from blowing apart.
After 11 hours of driving, I could remove my pork butt from the WSM and have some delicious pulled pork. Naturally I would have way too much for myself. So what to do with the extra? Sell it to other drivers sick of eating out of truck stops. Delicious home-made (or road-made) BBQ. Not McDonalds or food from a plastic wrapper. I usually love Arby's, but I had that for lunch, and now I am out of hours...Holy ####! There is the guy that sells the award winning championship BBQ. WOW, today is my day! -
Have any of you guys ever tried this?
